Video Production and Editing

The BBC have released a version of it’s iPlayer that enables MAC and LINUX users to download BBC programs for offline viewing. Until this release the iPlayer was Windows only.

The BBC use a form of DRM which allow the downloads to be viewed for 30 days from download date. The new iPlayer supports Mac OSX 10.4 and 10.5. The new service is in addition to the existing iPlayer streaming service.

The BBC has announced partnerships with ITV and BT “to promote a common industry approach and consumer offer to deliver on-demand TV over broadband.”

It’s been suggested the BBC will offer other networks access to iPlayer, providing additional content alongside the BBC content.
